Eggs....according to Katie

Katie was arguing with Tom about baby chicks being in ALL eggs....even the ones in the store. Tom kept telling her that there are NO baby chicks in store eggs. She told him that there definitely is and "you know how they get the baby chicks out of the eggs in the stores? They crack open the eggs, put some pink slobber (whatever that is), stir it up and put it back in the shell and that gets rid of the baby chicks." She is running 101.1 degree fever right now so I'm going to chalk it up to the fever talking. hehehe

How stupid!

I probably shouldn't post this because I don't want to give anyone an excuse to vote in a Democratic president next time (that would be awful!), but I will never understand why our government doesn't have a brain among all of them.

The VA Hospital in New Orleans has been closed since Katrina. It has to be rebuilt because the old building (which was crap anyway) flooded during Katrina. Now if you look at the statistics, most Louisiana veterans live south of Alexandria and west of Baton Rouge. Alexandria has a VA Hospital but they are limited in what they can do. If you need something that Alexandria doesn't have, you have to go to New Orleans or Houston. People with a brain would think the best place for a new VA hospital would be Lafayette or at the very least, Baton Rouge. But the powers that be don't think logically. They are planning on building a VA hospital five blocks from the old flooded hospital, next to the 37 acres where LSU plans on putting the new Charity Hospital, which has also been closed during the storm. They are going to have to clear the houses and small businesses that were there before. Both Lafayette and Baton Rouge have PLENTY of land that is already clear to put the new VA hospital. But they prefer to put it back in the bowl that is New Orleans, putting it at risk again when the next Katrina hits and making veterans have to drive across the state, taking their life into their hands, going to New Orleans.

I think it is a ridiculous proposal. But I have a theory on why they are doing it. I don't think it is a coincidence that is will be near LSU and Tulane Medical Schools. They get to make our veterans guinea pigs. That's what I get out of the statement "
to have these facilities side-by-side works more efficiently for the students and researchers."

My dad went through the VA system for medical treatment but he went to Alexandria and Houston. He preferred not to risk life and limb going to New Orleans. I think our veterans should be taken into consideration when making decisions of where to put a VA Hospital and I also don't think we should use our veterans as guinea pigs for experiments. They deserve better than to be treated like second class citizens with third world healthcare!

Tom's child, Katie

While Katie may share some of my features, she is all Tom's kid. It just amazes me how much she is like Tom. Yesterday was her day to do Show and Tell at school. She didn't want to do it. Tom wasn't going to make her do it. I told him that I wanted her to do it because it was like homework and it is her turn. So we made her find something to take. She picked a bear my mom gave her for Valentine's Day and stomped to Tom's truck so he could take her to school. He said all the way to school she griped about show and tell being stupid and how she didn't want to do it. She told me basically the same thing the day before....that she didn't care about other kids' toys and didn't want to sit there and listen to them talk about their toys either. Is that Tom or what? By the way, she did the show and tell. According to her teacher, she got up in front of the class and said "Here's my bear" and wanted to sit down but the teacher asked questions about the bear, making her talk about it. Katie told me when I picked her up that she hated it. LOL

Well last night we were getting ready to go to church and she was complaining, once again, about her shoes. Now I bought her nice Skechers shoes with lights on the side and everything. She thinks they are pretty but she has been complaining that she "didn't like the way they made her feet look." I couldn't figure out what she was talking about. Well she said it again last night and I told Tom and he explained it to me. Katie doesn't like the pattern of the sock that appears on her feet after she takes her shoes off. That pickiness is definitely from Tom. Tom is extremely detail oriented and that's why he is GREAT at troubleshooting anything and everything. The littlest things never get by him. Katie is going to be the same way.

AWANA (Approved workmen are not ashamed) Club started last night at Grace and I found out that Brittanie's K3 teacher, Mrs. Barnes, was going to be Katie's teacher in Cubbies at AWANA. So Tom and I dropped her off at AWANA and we had dinner at Ruby Tuesdays. Brittanie was at our church. (Our church doesn't have AWANA.) Tom and I don't usually go to church on Wednesday night. Since AWANA is from 7 to 8:30pm, we can have a date every Wednesday! It was nice to be just the two of us and sit there and talk. Katie loved AWANA. She came running out of the building to the van with a huge smile on her face and told me she had a great time.

This should happen everywhere!

(New Orleans) -- Two towns in Louisiana are cracking down on pants that are worn low enough to show underwear, or worse.

The city councils of Alexandria and Shreveport are telling their inhabitants to hike up their pants or pay fines up to $200.

The ordinances still need a mayoral signature before the fashion police can start doling out punishment for wearing saggy pants. If they go into effect, that means there are at least six cities in the state that have trouser standards.

In Alexandria, the ordinance is reminiscent of school dress codes. It allows three inches of sag. Go below that, and citizens can be slapped with a fine.

While some critics say police have more important things to do than rid the streets of low-hanging pants, other foes say there are racist undertones to the policy.

A proposal in Stratford, Connecticut was soundly rejected this week after critics said it would be unconstitutional and target minorities.

I got this from wltx.com.

************
I think this is a GREAT idea!!! I'm so sick of seeing the underwear of these immature losers. I am going to show my age but when I was growing up, we actually were embarrassed if our underwear peeked over our pants. Now guys are belting their pants under their butt so that ALL of their underwear is showing and girls are wearing pants low so as to show their thongs over the top. Tom refers to those as "slut pants." I applaud these two cities for taking a stand for decency! I went to Louisiana College in Pineville, which is just across the bridge from Alexandria and it is a very nice city. I guess they want to keep it that way. Good for them!

Don't clean the ceiling

Brittanie was cleaning Katie's bathroom today after church and Katie was right on her heels watching everything she did. Brittanie started cleaning the mirror and Katie told her "You can't clean the ceiling cuz God is up there and you might squirt him in the eye."

That kid is always thinking! LOL

First week of school

Well the first week of school is coming to an end and it went pretty well. Brittanie is really enjoying having only one class that has homework and studying. Next semester she will have 3 so she better enjoy it now.

Katie gets up every morning bright eyed and bushy tailed (in stark contrast to the rest of us in this house) and anxious to go to school. When I pick her up from school, she is happy and smiling and I say "Wow! Look at that smile! Looks like you had a very good day." Her response each and every day is "No! I'm just happy that I'm free!" She reminds me of a hyper version of Eeyore. She is never happy with anything, no matter how much fun it was. There are a few exceptions, like going to the office with Daddy. But for the most part, she can have a total blast doing something and come home and say it wasn't fun. She is something else!!

Swansea's first football game is tonight and that means Brittanie has to oversee her cadets that are doing parking detail and then go out on the field while her color guard presents colors (flags) during the national anthem. She has to do that at every home football game. But she is loving being Battalion Commander!

Brittanie's first day of her senior year

Well Brittanie started her last year of high school today. I got up early and cooked her scrambled eggs and sausage and made her some coffee to start her day. She had a good day and came home very happy. Let's hope that lasts. She said her Prob and Stats teacher talks like the teacher on Charlie Brown cartoons but she enjoyed his sarcastic sense of humor. They got new books that were all still individually wrapped in plastic. One of the students asked him if he could take off the plastic from his book. Brittanie said he gave a Tom answer "No, you put the book on your head and all the information will transfer to your brain through osmosis." Tom has said that quite a few times before.

Looks like the first semester classes should be good. The only hard class she will have is Prob and Stats but she is good at math so it shouldn't be a big deal. You will notice in the picture that she is wearing an ID around her neck. That is a new security policy in the school this year and it didn't go over well with students. They handed out ID's complete with black lanyards. Brittanie promptly took her ID off the generic lanyard and put on her Army lanyard.

Katie's first day of school pictures

Here are Katie's pictures from yesterday, her first day of K4. This is not how she normally dresses but Grace requires that all girls wear dresses that go down to the knees and have sleeves. Katie is tall for her age so even though she wears a size 5, I have to buy a size 7 dress, which floats on her, to have it be long enough. Her non-school clothes fit better. I wanted to say that so that nobody thinks we actually dress her like the Amish normally. You will also notice we cut Katie's hair short. She had a meltdown everytime we had to brush her hair and I was sick of that. So we cut it short. She hated it at first but she loves it now because we can brush it all in less than a minute.

Katie's 1st day of K4

Today was Katie's first day of school as a K4 student! She really didn't want to go because she was afraid that the teacher would ask her a question she didn't know the answer to. She had a pretty good day but told me after she got home that she didn't want to go back until she knew everything. I told her it is the teacher's job to teach her stuff. She doesn't care. She doesn't want to go back until she knows everything before the teacher teaches it. (To Tom's coworkers....Sound like anyone you know??? lol)

I loaned my camera out but haven't gotten it back yet so I had to take a picture of her with Brittanie's camera but since we can't find the CD that came with the camera, we can't get the pictures off. We will just have to wait till Tom gets home and he can get them off using Linux. Windows stinks!!! Anyway, when I get the picture, I will post it.

Tomorrow is Brittanie's first day as a high school senior. I've been tearing up all day thinking about it. Who told her she could grow up? Seems like only yesterday she was starting K5 and now she is a senior!

Need your help!!

A couple of weeks ago, I posted about my childhood friend, Theresa's, daughter, Brittany, getting in a 4-wheeler accident. Well Brittany is now paralyzed from the neck down. She is going to be getting treatment out of state. Theresa is a single mom of 3 and is going to have to leave her job to be there for Brittany through this. Obviously this is going to be very difficult financially on them, as well as emotionally. Theresa's friends and family are organizing a Po-boy benefit (and for you non-Louisiana residents, that's a sub sandwich) at the end of September to help them.

So if you are anywhere near Krotz Springs on September 29th, please go by the Valero Recreational Club from 11am to 1pm and buy some po-boys. Those of you who aren't near Krotz Springs, I urge you to still help out. Please join me in sending them a donation. Every dollar counts!

Send donations to:

BENEFIT FOR BRITTANY QUEBEDEAUX

c/o American Bank and Trust

P.O. Box 257

Krotz Springs, LA 70750

Account #

They are circulating a flyer to let people know how they can help. I uploaded it for everyone to see. It has a picture of Brittany on it. It is a pdf file. Just imagine if this was your daughter and the circumstances you are in and please do unto others what you would want them to do for you! Don't forget to keep praying!!

Katie went to work with daddy today

Tom had to do something at work tonight so he took Katie with him so I could type in peace. Tom had a couple of stories that I just had to blog.

First off, she asked him "Daddy, is this where you work?" Tom answered yes. She said "Where are all the people?"

While he was working, she wanted him to come and tell her what the motion detector was in the hall. She said "Daddy, can you come here for a second?" He told her he couldn't right now because he was working. So she started talking to herself out loud. She said "Hmmm that didn't work. Maybe if I ask nicer, he will come." So then she asked Tom, "Daddy, can you please come her for a second, pretty please?" Tom told her he couldn't right now. So then she says "Well that didn't work either. Maybe if I ask him a 100 times he will come." So then she asks Tom, "Daddy can you come here?
Daddy can you come here?Daddy can you come here?Daddy can you come here?Daddy can you come here?Daddy can you come here?Daddy can you come here?Daddy can you come here?Daddy can you come here?" Tom had to laugh at that point and went to see what she was so curious about.

She would learn something in every room she went in and would ask Tom "What are we going to learn next?" She LOVES to learn and Tom, just like his dad, is great at teaching his kids.

When she got home, she was jumping up and down telling me how much fun it was and how much she learned. lol

For those who know Tom

Does this remind you of anyone?

She's in for a rude awakening!

Brittanie and I were talking about her classes at Carson-Newman next year and how early she would have to get up for PT. So I went to the website and found out that PT is Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 6am to 7am. That's when I noticed a class called Bushcraft Skills. Here is the description:

103. Bushcraft Skills, 1 hour, Fall, Spring
Instruction in adventure-oriented skills necessary for outdoor survival. Focus is on basic leadership development with a hands-on approach to classroom instruction. Includes techniques of camping, land navigation, marksmanship and life survival skills. Two class periods of one hour each per week. Lab fee.

When I read it to Brittanie, her only response was "I'm not eating a bug. I will give my life for my country but I'm not eating a bug!" Boy is she in for a rude awakening. A couple of Tom's coworkers have gone through Marine training and one was in Army ROTC in college. From the stories I've heard, she will be eating bugs in this type of training. I told her I wish someone would record that. I can't imagine Brittanie doing outdoor training. She and I are not the camping type and her sense of direction stinks big time. She will never make it out of the woods! LOL

Very productive day!

I got up early and knocked out a dictation and just as I was finishing, Katie got up. That meant that Brittanie had to get up since she watches Katie for me while I'm working. But today I decided to tackle Katie's closet. I knew that there were alot of clothes that she could no longer wear in her closet that I had to get rid of to make room for her new school clothes. Brittanie grabbed a laundry basket and would load it up with clothes from the hangers and bring it to me to go through. We had Katie try on a few things and we kept a few things but 99% of what was in there was put to the side to donate to His House Ministries. We also cleaned out Katie's cabinet that her Uncle Eddie built her to put her clothes in. We tossed out just about everything....all the shorts, socks, underwear, and PJ's were tight and all had to go. By the time we were done, we had 5 big 39 gallon lawn and leaf bags packed full of clothes to donate plus a couple of dresses that had been dry cleaned and were on a hanger, an angel costume and a pageant dress that all stayed on hangers. We also tossed out TONS of wire hangers. I HATE wire hangers! Ok so I'm not as bad as Joan Crawford....not by a mile....but I do hate those things. We tossed them out and hung everything on thick plastic hangers, which we ended up with tons of after taking 99% of her clothes off of them.

Don't worry, Katie has clothes to wear. I had been holding off on putting her new school clothes in her closet because I knew it had to be cleaned out first. Now it is all organized and nice. Her cabinet has her new Disney Princess undies, ankle socks, and new shorts to wear under her school dresses. We have her school supplies all bagged up complete with a full change of clothes in a Ziploc bag.....all ready to go for open house at Grace tomorrow night. School starts Monday for Katie and Tuesday for Brittanie. I'm sooooooooo excited!!!

Remember the post awhile back about Tom being cheap. He made me laugh Monday night because he ran to Wal-Mart after work to get Katie's school supplies. I had made him a list of what Grace's paperwork said she needed. One of the things on the list was 5 glue sticks. Tom decided that was nuts and 4 big glue sticks were enough....so he only bought 4. I swear he squeaks when he walks. LOL I'll get a note Monday telling me to send the other glue stick. But that's ok, I got a good laugh out of it anyway.

God doesn't like ugly!!

I was looking at wltx.com like I do every morning when an article caught my eye.....here it is:

(Swansea) - Three men were arrested in Lexington County, after deputies say they sold drugs while working at a Swansea fast food restaurant.

Sheriff James Metts with the Lexington County Sheriff's Department say the Lexington County Narcotics Enforcement Team arrested four men in total Tuesday following their investigation of the Subway restaurant at 1953 Southbound Road in Swansea. Metts says the investigation involved undercover officers over the course of several weeks.

Deputies arrested 19-year-old Benjamin Wayne Murray of Gaston, 19-year-old Dustin Dewight Bryson of Swansea, 20-year-old Manning Kyle Reynolds of West Columbia, all of which were employees at the Subway. Deputies also arrested 18-year-old James Taylor Spurgeon of Gaston at his home off of Highway 6. Each was charged with multiple counts of distribution of crack cocaine and marijuana.

Each of the men are being held at the Lexington County jail.

Investigators say the men would peddle the crack and marijuana from the drive-through window of the restaurant. Officers say they found marijuana residue in the cash drawer of the drive-through window. Metts says even though the operation involved three employees, Subway management was unaware of the activity.

Source

Remember the jerk that was so hateful to Brittanie when she worked at Subway in Swansea? That's him....Kyle Reynolds. It took almost a year but God took care of Kyle's hatefulness. This is the "man" that the owner said was such a wonderful guy and would never do anything wrong. Funny it says Subway management was unaware of the activity....like they would have done anything anyway. His mom is a manager and she is friends with the owner. Gimme a break!

She didn't say it was a secret soooooooo

Tom and I are going to be an aunt and uncle!!! Tom's little brother, Jesse, and his wife, Melissa, are expecting a baby April 7, 2008. We are very excited!! They celebrated their 5 year wedding anniversary in May and have a beautiful house in Rock Hill. This is going to be only lucky baby!

More blasts from the past

I started looking for pictures to make Brittanie's senior page for the yearbook and came across a couple of pictures that just made me smile.
This was Tom's 1972 Mazda pick-up. His parents bought it for him to drive when he was 16 and we bought it from them when we got married. I can't find the before pictures of it but this was definitely the "after" picture. They put a new paint job, upholstery, and carpet on/in it when his parents bought it. He changed just about every part on that truck somewhere along the way. He drove it 300,000 miles. It was a GREAT truck. But it hated me. I will never forget when we lived in northeast Columbia and Tom was carpooling to Flextronics in Great Falls with a guy named Rob. Well Rob drove one morning so I drove him to the gas station to meet Rob. I didn't even make it a block from the gas station and it died on me and would NOT start. I waited until I thought he was at work and then called Tom. He had to borrow Rob's car and drive all the way back to Columbia to rescue me. I had just tried again to start it just 2 minutes before Tom got there. Tom sat in it and it started right up. GRRRRRR After that I just left the truck at home and rode the bus to work. But Tom drove it from 1986 to 1992 when it threw a rod and he even debated on dropping another motor in it. Ultimately we just bought a new truck. But he did think long and hard about putting a new motor and continuing to drive it. He loved that truck.
This is my mom and I when I was 17. Mannnn I wish I looked like that again!! I was in LOVE with Dan Marino...thus the shirt. By the way, that was a youth large! Look at that tiny arm. Can you believe those jerks at my high school called me fat back then? I should have punched them in the face. My bottom lip looks funky because I had just gotten back from a trip to Holly Beach and fell asleep in the sun and my bottom lip was one huge fever blister as a result of it. It was awful!! The camera washed out my face but you can look at my arm and see how dark I really was. It was great!
Here is a picture of Brittanie when she was 11 taking her belt test. She was obviously a yellow belt here but was testing for the next one....I think it was orange? Anyway, she got all the way to purple and then started cheerleading and had to stop but she misses it.

NO noses!

I have heard of people hating feet but never have I heard of someone hating noses. Katie HATES noses. I have been meaning to post for a long time that Katie hates being kissed on the nose. She will gross out and claims that you are giving her germs. But it goes beyond that. Last night, Tom was scratching his nose....not inside the nostril, just on top, and she saw him and said "Ewwwwwwww! That's disgusting!" She can't stand for anyone to even touch their nose around her. Tom decided to annoy her this afternoon and kiss her nose and she screamed "DISGUSTING!" Then he came to me and kissed my nose and she screamed again, "DISGUSTING!"

Brittanie has always hated blowing her nose and refuses to do it. She would prefer to just breathe through her mouth if she has a cold rather than blow her nose. I told her one day she is going to be embarrassed when a sneeze sneaks up on her in school and it flies all over everyone around her. (Isn't that a pleasant thought?)

No doubt, Tom and I have weird kids! I don't know where that weirdness comes from because we are just so normal, right??? hehehe

Brittanie has a Jessica Simpson moment.

Brittanie made herself a tuna sandwich for lunch after church today and came in the living room and asked us if tuna was fish. I said "No Jessica Simpson, it's chicken!" That's a Swansea education at its best. hahaha

But I guess I shouldn't blame Swansea because just minutes later, Brittanie told Katie to get her toys out of the living room because not only are they not supposed to ever be in the living room but she was about to start cleaning the living room. Katie was eating her Kid Cuisine meal and told Brittanie she didn't want to put the stuffed bunny that was on her feet in the playroom because it keeps her from getting food on her feet. I told her that she should be eating over her desk and plate and then the food would never get on her feet. That's just the weirdest thing I've ever heard....protecting her feet from getting food on them while she eats.

These two can't really be from me and Tom. hahaha

I'm so excited!!

Tom comes home today and I'm thrilled. The last week and a half has brought back memories of his trips to Ireland, which were pure torture for us. I can't wait till 2:30!!! I am going to be sitting at that airport waiting and will pick him up as soon as he steps out of the airport door! I don't understand women that enjoy their husband being away from them. I hate it. But Tom is my husband and my best friend so it is especially hard to be away from him. Ok enough mushy stuff.

Yesterday was Brittanie's first day of leadership camp. She was teaching the upcoming Let 1's....first year JROTC cadets. In that class was Brittanie's cousin, Allan. Brittanie is pretty excited to have him in JROTC this year. It is going to be her last year at Swansea and she is hoping that Allan will like JROTC as much as she does and advance like she has and become Battalion Commander like she did. Well I talked to Jenny (Allan's mom) last night and she said he really liked it. Brittanie said she was very pleased with the number of cadets that showed up. It wasn't a required camp. She had 53 cadets show up! She came home and worked on what she was going to be teaching them today. She is so dedicated. I think Brittanie would make a good teacher....she enjoyed teaching her class last year when she was a company commander. But she wants to make real money so that is going to keep her from becoming a teacher.

Brittanie has registration today and will have to pay her fees, get her new ID, new parking permit, and get her permanent schedule. Well I was adding up her fees and it annoys me as much as paying 1/3 of our income in taxes! We pay ALOT of income tax, we pay ALOT of property tax, and still the fees are $78!!! And of course we are going to want a yearbook so when those go on sale in the next week or so, you can add another $65! Oh by the way, that $78 doesn't include lunch money. Brittanie told me she doesn't want lunch money. She will bring her lunch this year. I'm not complaining because we can't afford it, because we can afford it. But it still irritates me that we should have to afford it after paying outrageous amounts of property taxes.

Ok, I've gotten mushy, I've gotten positive, and I've gotten mad....time to shut up and work. hehehe I want to get my typing done before Tom gets home!! Yall have a good day!

The busy school year starts early for Brittanie

Brittanie had a JROTC meeting today and she will be conducting a JROTC leadership camp starting tomorrow and ending Friday. While she was at school today, she got her schedule changed. She had signed up for speech but evidently not enough people signed up for speech so they signed her up for Spanish 2. Spanish 1 was a nightmare for Brittanie and she barely passed. We definitely don't want her GPA to go in the toilet for something stupid like Spanish. So she got it changed to Chorus 3. So here is how her senior year is going to go.

1st Semester:

PE 3 (Weight lifting)
Probability and Statistics
Chorus 3 (show choir)
JROTC 4

2nd Semester

US Government/Economics
English 4
Chorus 2 (concert choir)
Biology 2

Brittanie found out today that as Battalion Commander, she is required to attend not only Swansea's military ball but also the military balls of White Knoll High, Airport High, BC High, Dutch Fork High, and Pelion High. She broke that news to John tonight and since John isn't going back to JROTC next year, he will have to rent a tux each time. He mentioned that it was $150 per rental. If that is true, it would probably be cheaper for him to buy his own tux. That's 6 rentals for military balls and then one more for prom. I'm sure he can buy a tux for less than $1050! But between all those formal events, rifle team, drill team, color guard (which color guard not only has competitions but also performs at all home football games), plus show choir and concert choir competitions, it is going to be an extremely busy year. But she is looking forward to it. I'm so proud of her. She has been working on summer making notes of what she wanted to accomplish with her battalion this year. After her meeting today, she went to McDonald's and sat down to eat lunch and work on some things that was talked about at the meeting today. She preferred to do that at McDonald's because with Katie at home, McDonald's is much more peaceful than our house.

Speaking of Katie, she had yet another episode tonight. I was trying to talk to her and she plugged her ears and went "NAH NAH NAH I'M NOT LISTENING TO YOU! NAH NAH NAH!" I told her that was very disrespectful and it will not be tolerated because she will listen to every word I tell her. Then I told her to get her toys out of the living room and go to bed. She told me she was sorry. I told her that she is only sorry because I am sending her to bed. She denied that. I told her that it didn't matter, she is going to bed....NOW! As she was picking up her toys, she started crying saying "ooooh I wish you would just forgive me. God wants us to forgive one another." I told her that I do forgive her but there are consequences for your actions. Even God punishes after He forgives. And the consequence for her action tonight is going to bed. She told me that God loved her more than I love her. I said "you got that right. Because God will listen to everything you say. I am not listening to you anymore. Shut your mouth and go to bed!" She went to bed and I could hear the water in her waterbed, meaning she was having a tantrum in her bed. I told her she can kick and flail all she wants but this is HER fault. She said "No it is your fault because you can't forgive!" My reply to that was "shut up and go to sleep!" What a long day!!!!!!!!

Sarcasm

I know that with Tom, Brittanie, and I in this house, we have more sarcasm in the house than the average family but I can't imagine Katie is picking up this much attitude this young from us. It has to be her personality. We had yet another argument a minute ago. Actually I don't argue, I just told her how it was and told her I don't care what her opinion is, I told her how it is! She said "Fine then be wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Wrong!" Anyone else out there go through this kind of mouth with a 4-year-old?

Need your prayers!!

Last night the Chief of Police from Port Barre, LA was in a high speed chase into Pointe Coupee Parish (right over the bridge from Krotz Springs) and apparently lost control of his car and hit a tree and was killed. Any officer, in my opinion, killed in the line of duty is a hero. He was 54 and a good man. Please pray for his family, his friends, and the community as they deal with the loss of of a good man and a dedicated officer. Here is the story with a picture of what is left of his car, just click here to get to the DailyWorld site.

Also last night, three girls from Krotz Springs were injured in a 4-wheeler accident. Two are seriously injured. They are teenagers. No parent should ever have to deal with this. It is a horrible thing to have happen. Please pray that these girls make a full recovery and that God will give their parents (and all of the family) the strength to get through this. I grew up with the parents of these girls and having a 16-year-old of my own, this really hits home.

Thanks so much in advance for all of you who care enough to pray for these girls and these families!!

Pushing school start date back stinks!

MySpace Countdown Generator

I am sooooooooo ready to send Katie back to school. I can't wait till next year when she starts full day Kindergarten. She complains about everything and then when I tell her to stop it, she tells me "Stop listening to me. I wish I had a different family then I wouldn't be in this mess. I do not like this house!" She is 4. Can you imagine what a ball of joy she is going to be 10 years from now? By the way, she said all of that in response to me telling her that she had to have milk with breakfast. That's it.

Back home

Tom and Brittanie got home about 7:30pm last night. We got hugs and kisses, souvenirs, and then John came over for his hugs and kisses and souvenirs. Katie was overjoyed to have her daddy home. Katie and Brittanie were happy to see each other for a minute. They were back to normal within a few minutes with Katie telling Brittanie to go upstairs. Yep....things are back to normal. Well except for one thing....Tom is gone again. Last night when he got home, we had to wash his clothes and repack because he had to have the rental car back at the airport at 10am and then catch an 11am flight to Minneapolis, MN for a conference for work until Wednesday afternoon. He is going to be exhausted when he gets home after being so busy for a week and a half.

New York Day 6

Tom and Brittanie are home now and I didn't get the pictures of their last vacation day....New York....until today. So here goes.Obviously the Statue of Liberty.M&M factory on Broadway. Hard Rock Cafe New YorkEmpire State BuildingThe Twin Towers memorial at St. Peter's.These were in McDonald's. The one below was a 3D replica of the buildings in NY. Both the mural and the 3D replica were upstairs in McDonald's.Can't you just see Tom putting this on his parking space?
This is the face of a man who is tired of being above the Mason Dixon line. hehehe It was taken in McDonald's as well.

As usual, the rest of the pictures are on Tom's gallery. Click here.

Vacation Day 5 Philadelphia PA

Tom and Brittanie spent the day in Philadelphia today. They saw the Liberty Bell and ate at the Hard Rock Cafe. Brittanie told me she was not impressed with Philadelphia at all. She was so funny on the phone. She and I can just about quote the entire movie "Liar Liar." Well she told me that there were so many homeless people everywhere that she thought of the scene in "Liar Liar" where Jim Carrey told the homeless guy "I just want to get from my car to the office without being confronted by the decay of western society." We are die hard Republicans and don't believe in giving hand outs to people who are fully capable of working and supporting themselves. So I was very proud that Brittanie didn't actually say that movie line to the homeless guy or tell him to get a job. But she said there were homeless people everywhere and if you ignore them and just keep walking, they will follow you jingling their can. Knowing Tom and Brittanie like I do, I know it took an enormous amount of restraint for them not to tell them something.

After they left Philadelphia, they drove to New Jersey and checked into their hotel. Definitely not as nice as the other 3 hotels they have been in but it is cheap, clean, and has free parking so they took it. Well they wanted to see Liberty Park. Tom went on Google to find the directions to Liberty Park. Well Google maps obviously knows nothing about bad neighborhoods. Tom said as he was driving, the neighborhood kept getting worse and worse and he couldn't believe they would put a park around there. He would have turned around but he was afraid to go down an even worse street. Brittanie said she was scared. Tom said I would have been totally freaking out. But they made it to the park which was in a little better area. But Tom took the long way back to the hotel via the New Jersey turnpike because it was getting dark and there was no way they were going back through that neighborhood at night. Tom has always said if he never had to go back to the New York area it would be too soon. He is only going up there so Brittanie can see it, since she has never been. They went to McDonalds for dinner tonight and she wanted a sweet tea. Tom told her that they don't have sweet tea at McDonalds up there. She was stunned! lol She can't imagine living in a place where you can't get sweet tea at McDonalds. hahaha

Tom is having trouble getting internet service in his hotel and on his Blackberry up there. So I don't know if I will have pictures again until they get home Saturday night. They are staying tonight and tomorrow night at their NJ hotel and then leaving Saturday morning to come home.

ADDENDUM: I got an e-mail this morning from Tom telling me that the pictures are up, so here goes!Brittanie in Valley Forge. If you read the inscription on the monument, you will know why she is smiling!
Obviously this is the Liberty Bell (the Tom's backside hehe)
I think these two pictures (above and below) were taken in Valley Forge.Stained glass window of Elvis at the Hard Rock Cafe in Philadelphia.
Tom and Brittanie's New Jersey hotel (above). It's a far cry from their DC hotel but it's cheap!
The New York skyline taken from Liberty Park. Enjoy these pictures because they risked their life for them. heheheThere are a bunch more pictures taken in Valley Forge and Philadelphia to see on Tom's photo gallery. Click here.

My response

I was called out in a free newspaper in a letter to the editor dated 07/23/07, in response to the comments I made at the Gaston town council meeting. I won't write my own letter to the editor because any paper that would print that stuff isn't worthy of my time. But I do want to address the "man" that mentioned my name in his letter to the editor.

To that "man":

I never once made mention to or used the term "trash rag" ever in anything that I have ever said. Had you been paying attention you would have heard what I actually said. But I can understand why you didn't hear it. The people that actually believe in truth were quiet during that meeting....no matter who was talking. But while I was talking there were some people who were talking over me and at one point out right interrupted me then his wife out right interrupted Melissa, leading me to believe they didn't care if what we were saying was true or not, they weren't going to listen. I said in my statement that night that our concerns for this town need to stay with the people who can bring about change.....the Gaston town council. With all of the bad publicity that Gaston is getting in the news, airing your opinion to the media about our town officials will only give Gaston a bad reputation and eventually the only people that will want to move here and live here are the dregs of society. I don't want our town to turn into that. I actually care about our town and want it to remain a good place to live. We need to pull together as a community to bring about change, not turn to the media to tear down our town. That helps NO ONE!

You also claimed that I was speaking "in favor of the Town Administration." While I completely and 100% support our town administrator, as I worked with her and know her personally and know that she strives to do everything by the book and would never knowingly do anything wrong, I was not speaking "in favor of the Town Administration." If you would have been listening, what I actually did was correct some lies and half truths that were told at the June council meeting as well as lies that were floating around town. And right after I did it, Mayor Sharpe confirmed everything I had just said. So you see, unlike what you have done in writing to this free newspaper and quoting me incorrectly, I got my facts straight before I said a thing.

Next time how about shut up and listen. Also, you as a former police officer should know better than to quote someone without getting the quote correct. What you accused me of saying was in quotation marks indicating a direct quote from me. Once again yet another LIE! You really should check your facts before running off at the mouth...or in this case, the pen! Ignorance bleeds through loudly.

Vacation Day 4 Gettysburg, PA

Tom and Brittanie went around Gettysburg, PA today and were able to see the battlefield and a few other significant Civil War sites. They saw a movie at the local cinema called "Fields of Freedom" as well. Unfortunately, Brittanie had a headache today so they didn't go into the many museums Gettysburg has to offer. They said it is cheaper to eat and sleep in Gettysburg as opposed to Washington DC but the souvenirs in DC are definitely cheaper than in Gettysburg.
Remember, you can click on any of these pictures to enlarge it so you can get a better look and read the writing on some of the pictures.

When they were done in Gettysburg, they drove to West Chester, Pennsylvania, right outside of Philadelphia.
This is a picture taken on the drive from Gettysburg to West Chester. This is a tiny glimpse of Amish country!

Thanks for reading! I had a reader from the US Senate today. Tom laughs at me because I get excited when people read my blog. I'm a dork, I admit it and make no apologies for it! Click here to see all of the pictures from today.
